About The Author
The Story She Earned the Right to Tell
D.A. Burnom is a military veteran, mother, entrepreneur, and survivor of Military Sexual Trauma (MST). She served six years on active duty in the Air Force before transitioning to the Air National Guard, where she retired after 24 years of service. Her military career took her from Plattsburgh Air Force Base in New York to Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska, and eventually to Carswell Joint Reserve Base in Texas.
Burnom holds three master’s degrees in Management, Business Administration, and Healthcare Administration, along with professional certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP). Despite her academic and professional achievements, her greatest lessons came from surviving what no degree could prepare her for.
She endured sexual assault and harassment during her military service, three failed marriages, job loss, bankruptcy, and a battle with depression so severe it brought her to the edge of suicide. Through it all, she raised her daughter as a single parent, cared for her terminally ill mother, and built a real estate investment portfolio from scratch.
Burnom wrote Love Letters From A War I Didn’t Choose as both a record of her survival and a lifeline for others who carry invisible wounds. She understands that healing is not linear, that some days you take ten steps forward and twelve steps back, and that asking for help is not weakness but wisdom.
She currently lives in Michigan, where she continues to invest in real estate, support other survivors of MST, and prove that your past does not get to write your future.
